Ifeoluwa (Ife) is an extremely intelligent, wise and multi-talented young lady. Academically, she stands out not only due to her academic rigor and grades, but also through her ability to balance and excel in a number of extracurricular activities and talents. Ife is the youngest of three children in a traditional Nigerian-American family. As a freshman, Ife was on the Varsity track and field team, but once she started excelled and currently holds the school record for the 100 and 200-meter sprints. She has been athletically recruited by a few colleges but has decided that she enjoys running for the ‘fun of it’ and doesn’t want to run competitively in college . Her leadership skills at school include Vice President of BSU, Captain as well as Special Events leader for the ASB, a member of the CSF (our honor society), and a delegate in Youth and Government. As Vice President of the Black Student Union, at a high school where less than 3% of our student body is African-American, this creates several challenges. I would also like to highlight Ife’s artistic and entrepreneurial talents. Ife has taken a leadership role as the Founder of Z magazine, a fashion and culture magazine that she created that is made ‘by and for Gen Zers’. The creation of the magazine was fueled by her desire to explore and learn new concepts, look beyond the surface, and then share this knowledge with others and it speaks to her naturally inquisitive nature and intellectual curiosity. Z magazine has been a ‘labor of love’ for Ife and she has (even during the pandemic) been able to solicit input and lead a team of her peers in continuing to develop this magazine through funds that she obtained from the earnings of her summer jobs. Finally, Ife is a sensitive and caring young woman who gives back to her community through her year-round volunteer work at a local retirement home as well as a Youth Group Leader at her local church.
